Galco’s Combat Master is a well executed OWB holster. It’s double stitching and long width allow even distribution and a tight fit utilizing a pair of 1.75 belt slots. There are no fancy tightener or reinforced mouth, just thick leather, thread, and tight molding. The holster rides high with a slight cant allowing for the concealment of larger firearms, and ease of draw.

On a personal note, this is the holster I use when shooting IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association) sanctioned events. After the initial break in period of a month, the Combat Master has become an extension of myself. I confidently know where my firearm is, every time I draw. Of the boxes of holsters that I have amassed, the Combat Master is most commonly on the top. It is a traditional holster built well enough to stand a decade of wear.

The only downside I have discovered is that in order to conceal the firearm, a jacket or some outer garment is required. This would not be an issue for those not interested or required to conceal their firearm. This is not a Combat Master specific issue. The vast majority of the large frame OWB holsters will require this.

Overall, the Galco Combat Master is an excellent holster.  For the quality and fit, it is priced very reasonably.

  1. I have used a speed master/ combat master for years. I own 2 j frames, a 2″ k frame, a Ruger SP 101, and a 1911. All of these weapons are carried in a combat master. I have used many holsters and the combat master is the top holster I have. I have yet to find its equal in concealment, speed, comfort, and fit this holster is truly a best but among holsters.
