Inside the Waist Band (IWB) Holsters

An Inside the WaistBand Holster (no, not interactive white board) is a holster designed to house the holstered firearm between the pants waistband and the individual’s waist. Typically an IWB holster is supported with a sturdy belt. Attachment devices can be made from materials such as leather, metal, or kydex. The attachment typically has one or two points of contact (belt loops) with the belt.

The main varying factors in IWB holsters include thumb breaks, degrees of cant, and attachment materials.
IWB holsters can be beneficial for many reasons. These holsters are very easy to conceal and are very accessible as long as the individual’s clothing allows for easy access.

The design and shape of the holster is also paramount. It is important that the holster be comfortable. The effectiveness of the design depends on the size and weight of the firearm as well as the location on the belt the individual wears the holster.
